Lygos roots back to the PhD project of its founder Dr. Bertan Kavuncu at Imperial College London. He developed the Data Observatory Software Framework (GDO) in 2015 that powered the KPMG Data Observatory at the Data Science Institute (DSI).

KPMG Data Observatory is Europe’s Largest Data Visualization Center, home to many novel research and industrial projects and appeared in the media on many occasions ( https://www.imperial.ac.uk/data-science/facilities/data-observatory/).

His PhD thesis supervised by Professor Yike Guo, director of DSI, explored Immersive Social Visual Data Analytics in Large High Resolution Displays (https://spiral.imperial.ac.uk/handle/10044/1/84842).

His PhD Project GDO has been used by many of the research projects undertaken in KPMG DO. It has also been used on visits by presidents, royal family members, ministers, members of the parliament, CEOs, ambassadors and other high profile visits to DSI since 2015.

It also enabled more than 20 Masters and Bachelor Students Theses, who base their projects on GDO.

Over 30 Apps have been developed for GDO, each having ability to scale up to 64 screens with full resolution. This made it possible for researchers to create 130 million pixel animated maps, graphs and charts and thus enabled notable research such as Shanghai Metro Analytics and Cryptocurrency Patterns on KPMG DO.
