Setup Modes

Lygos offers a highly flexible architecture to support various hardware and space configurations. At its core:

  • One PC instance must run as the Server (Local Mode).
  • That server can summon ScreenManagement, and Control Clients.
  • Other PC/Tablet instances can connect to this server and also summon these clients.

Eventhough through lygos you can create any setup, here are some common ones as examples:

Large TV Mode:

Single large screen setup

  • Acts as a single screenspace.
  • Multiple Maps, Visualizations, or Media elements can be deployed to its grid layout.
  • The screen client typically runs on the same server PC.
  • Touchscreen or secondary displays on the server can run Control or Management Clients.
  • Remote PCs and tablets can connect as additional control interfaces.

Best suited for:

  • Small setups
  • Professional data presentations
  • Single dashboards in conference or control rooms

Video Wall Mode:

Multi-screen display acting as a unified seamless screenspace

  • Option 1 :
    • Setup: Each video wall display can be connected to a separate PC
    • Installation: Lygos runs on each PC, summoning a single screen client
    • Resolution: Full
    • Processing Power Requirement: Low
    • Synchronization: Required
  • Option 2 :
    • Setup: One PC per row of displays
    • Installation: Lygos runs on each PC, summoning multiple screen clients for each monitor
    • Resolution: Full
    • Processing Power Requirement: Medium
    • Synchronization: Required
  • Option 3 :
    • Setup: A single PC driving a small video wall (Each display is connected to PC separately)
    • Installation: Lygos summons a single screen client for whole videowall (Maximum 4 Displays)
    • Resolution: Full
    • Processing Power Requirement: Medium
    • Synchronization: Not Required
  • Option 4 :
    • Setup: A single PC driving a small video wall (Videowall connected from single connector)
    • Installation: Lygos summons a single screen client for whole videowall
    • Resolution: Limited (Videowall itself reduced its resolution to serve from a single connector)
    • Processing Power Requirement: Medium
    • Synchronization: Not Required
  • Option 5 :
    • Setup: A specialized PC or hardware equipment that connects to a large videowall an treat it as a single high-resolution screen
    • Installation: Lygos summons a single screen client for whole videowall
    • Resolution: Full
    • Processing Power Requirement: Very High
    • Warning Regarding This Setup:
      • Lygos screens will not be distributed and operate on a single screen client with full resolution of the videowall, thus rendering thousands, maybe millions of UI elements depending on how many displays on the videowall.
      • First of all, this requires very high GPU and CPU power.
      • Furthermore, regardless of PC or equipment providing this required processing power on a single device, it may still crash or lag due to limitations of operating system and drivers for displaying so many elements at such high resolution on a single window.
      • Usually, software, including the various third party graphic or UI packages we use, are designed for normal resolutions: up to 4K. Therefore, we prefer distribution of screens, where each screen render no more than 1-8K and render only partial amount of UI elements, rather than displaying such resolutions with ultra high number of UI elements on a single window.
    • Synchronization: Not Required

Notes:

  • Lygos can support most of the these build configurations above, however it affects pricing and performance, please check considerations and suggestions page for more information. Please try Lygos for free without ordering a package.
  • Screen clients can synchronize in <100ms for seamless map, visualization and media render and control on seamless screen space made of distributed screen client nodes.
  • single lygos screen client can span up to 4 adjacent identical monitors. This is used for having a single screen client for small videowalls. This removes requirement of synchronization on a small videowall, improving video synchronization performance that span to multiple displays. You can access span options through window control menu on top right of a screen client summoned on a PC Version of the software:

Example Use Cases:

  • Control Centers
  • Command Centers
  • Operation Centers
  • Digital Art Installations
  • Open Offices
  • Conference Rooms

Signage/Dashboard Mode:

Multiple independent screenspaces (of same or different sizes/configs) can connect to a single Lygos server.

Use Cases:

  • Office-wide Signage or Dashboards
  • A screenspace per meeting/conference room
  • Other

For example, you can use multiple regular TVs in a office space as dashboards which can be controlled by selected few, or have multiple conference rooms each with its videowall or large TV or have few displays at office corridors as signage looping through content.
This setup can be in addition to your main videowall setup since lygos provides flexibility on connecting multiple screenspaces and displaying separate layouts on each screenspace.
Each of these screenspaces can access to same visualization resources on the server. Admins and Users can determine what each of these screenspaces display.
You can determine who can have control access to each screenspace by providing control QRs to devices or people you want to give access, since these codes are per screenspace.
For example, provide a touch screen or tablet on each conference room, that can only access to that screenspace.
